Matter of Fact Media has been awarded development funding from the Canada Media Fund’s Canada-Italy Codevelopment Incentive for Documentary Projects for its project Beast Hunters of Rome.

Matter of Fact Media has been awarded development funding from the Canada Media Fund’s Canada-Italy Codevelopment Incentive for Documentary Projects for its project Beast Hunters of Rome. This will be a co-production with GA&A Productions of Italy. The documentary will tell the unknown story of the animal trade in Ancient Rome that supplied beasts for the Colosseum.

Vanessa Dylyn, president of Matter of Fact Media Inc., has received production funding from the Shaw Media-Hot Docs Completion Fund for the feature length documentary film, Leslie Caron: When You're A Star.

This feature-length documentary will take viewers into the world of Leslie Caron, the beloved star of classic American cinema and one of the last witnesses to a golden age of Hollywood. The film will offer a rare and privileged glimpse into the world of the beloved icons of film, dance and theatre of the 20th century through one of its most luminous personalities.

The film will be a co-production between Matter of Fact Media Inc. and Schuch Productions in France. Larry Weinstein will be directing.

Matter of Fact Media receives production funding from the Rogers Cable Network Fund for Werner Herzog's Into the Inferno

Vanessa Dylyn, president of Matter of Fact Media Inc., has received production funding from the Rogers Cable Network Fund for the feature length documentary film, Into the Inferno.

In this global odyssey, Werner Herzog teams up with the world’s leading volcanologist, Clive Oppenheimer to bring the story of the relationship between volcanoes, our planet and human society to the screen.

Their journey will take them across the world, where they’ll learn of the reverence felt by the societies surrounding these prima donnas of nature, and meet some of those who willingly live in the shadow of such lethally unpredictable neighbors. The film will feature Herzog’s unique take on nature and humankind, Clive’s unprecedented passion and depth of knowledge and some of the most glorious and surprising footage that our planet can produce.

Into the Inferno is a Spring Films and Matter of Fact Media Co-Production, in association with Werner Herzog Film.

Vanessa Dylyn, president of Toronto-based Matter of Fact Media has received Super Channel’s Development Fund in support of her feature length documentary, The Divided Brain: How It Creates Our World.

Inspired by Dr. Iain McGilchrist’s acclaimed book, The Master and His Emissary, the documentary will explore startling evidence about how the imbalance between the left and right hemispheres of the modern brain could be the clue to some of the problems confronting modern Western society.

Matter of Fact Media receives Wellcome Trust Development Broadcast Award for science project

Vanessa Dylyn, president of Toronto-based Matter of Fact Media has received the UK’s Wellcome Trust Broadcast Development Award in support of her new science film project The Divided Brain: How It Creates Our World.

Inspired by Dr. Iain McGilchrist’s acclaimed book, The Master and His Emissary, the limited series will reveal startling evidence about how the imbalance between the left and right hemispheres of the modern brain could be the clue to some of the problems confronting modern Western society.

“I’m thrilled about this award” says Vanessa, “it’s an honour for a Canadian company to receive funding from this prestigious UK science foundation.”

Matter of Fact Media will co-produce with UK-based Spring Films. Directing is David Malone, creator of popular science films for the BBC and Channel 4.

Ross King awarded Governor General's Award for English-language non-fiction

Canadian author Ross King has been awarded Canada’s 2012 Governor General’s Award for English-language non-fiction for his book Leonardo and the Last Supper, his examination of da Vinci’s iconic 15th century religious mural.

This is wonderful news, especially as we continue development on Bloody Masterpieces, a documentary project based on King’s latest work and also his book Michaelangeo and the Pope’s Ceiling. Both works provide a fascinating look behind some of the world’s greatest treasures and we send our congratulations to him!

The Mystery of San Nicandro, broadcast premiere on documentary!

Our new feature-length documentary is now complete! The Mystery of San Nicandro will premiere on CBC's channel documentary on November 18, 2012 at 8pm ET, 10pm PT.

At first glance, it is a compelling narrative about a messianic southern Italian man that had a mystical vision in the 1920s that resulted in the only mass conversion to Judaism in modern history. But it is much more than that. Today, something is stirring in southern Italy that will reverberate throughout the world. This film explores the present revival of Judaism in the most Catholic country of the world and how North American influence is stoking these flames.

The Mystery of San Nicandro

The Mystery of San Nicandro is a new feature-length documentary in the final stages of post-production, with a broadcast in Fall 2012 (tbd) and an interactive website coming soon! Over a year in the making, we assembled a talented crew to travel to the village of San Nicandro, other various parts of Italy including Serrestretta, Bova Marina, Vita, Sicily, parts of Israel where descendants of San Nicandro settled, and also North America, visiting and interviewing subjects in Ontario's own City of Hamilton.
